TechBoise Job Board

In an effort to answer the frequent question I get: "Do you know someone that's hiring for X?" I have added a job board to TechBoise. You can follow that little widget to the right or go to techboise.jobamatic.com

I hope this helps both those people looking for a job and those companies looking to hire. This is obviously a third party application, but it seemed like to best fit for our administration staff to handle (wait, I have no administration staff).

Please let me know any feedback that you have.

Plugging Pleo!

www.pleoworld.com

Most of you have seen Pleo in action, at least on video (if not, leave that link going on the intro page for a while).

Boisean/Idahoan Caleb Chung designed the Furby and his encore is Pleo.

I've seen Pleo 'in person' and it is spooky real. (The AI involved is truly cutting edge- I got entangled in a cognitive neuroscience project this year - I think 'meeting' Pleo was an omen, LOL)

Something new for Idaho to be proud of, my friends....

p.s. if anyone wants to buy me one for Christmas.... LOL

is this thing on?????????

OK, nobody is responding.... hell, hardly anyone is posting.

So, will you tell me what you want to read?

I just came back from the out-sized Academy of Management meetings in Philly - the "double helix" bridging asset model got blessed by *the* top guy in that arena. Idaho is on the right track!

Lots of interesting tidbits - I may end up a journal editor (first journal on social entrepreneurship & economic development) and book editor (on entrepreneurial economic development) - more work for no cash, LOL. But an honor! (See, I'm not just a research rock star, LOL.) The world's top expert on intuitive management style keeps asking about Piazza di Vino - and what he's found has profound implications for entrepreneurs and for training entrepreneurs. But those tales can wait...

Here's one big takeaway for me: Finding out how other cities/regions get traffic (and healthy debate) on their own equivalents to TechBoise.com.

Why Startups Fail

I know there are several readers who dedicate their professional and personal lives to this issue. E-Commerce News has an article about this issue www.ecommercetimes.com/rsstory/58813.html. Not much new in the story for most of us but it's always a good reminder.

A survey done by the U.S. Commerce Department stated that of every 10 small businesses, seven will survive their first year, three will still be going after three years and only two will remain after five years.

Lucky Bums! (Vote Early, Vote Often!)

No, that;s the name if a cool local company. Bob Frohwerk sent me this - vote early, vote often!

Lucky Bums, Inc., a small family-operated business in Boise, has advanced into the semi-finals of the Forbes.com "Boost Your Business" competition. The current competitive round is now accepting votes over the Internet to pare from 20 semi-finalists down to 5 finalists, seeking a grand prize of $100,000 to boost their business. In support of this Boise business, I ask you to consider voting for Lucky Bums at

The biggest missed opportunity

I believe the biggest missed opportunity in Boise's tech history was locating HP and Micron on opposite ends of the valley.

Have you ever been to Palo Alto? All the big tech companies are within a stones throw of each other (if uncle Rico's throwing) Ever stopped in one of the local pubs after hours? You have engineers from different companies hanging out and talking. Most of them know each other, most of them have even worked together at one point or another.
