James Ellick’s First Day
Today was the first day of work for James Ellick’s. Ellick was appointed to be the new Director of the Department of Commerce back in May. Ever since then, mystery has shrouded this man and the appointment. We know very little about him other than he has a high tech business background, which has many of us biz-techies excited.
I recently received unsubstantiated, third hand, inside reports about topics that were discussed at their morning meeting today.
No ties above 90 degrees. Apparently it is OK for staff of the Department of Commerce and labor to not wear ties when the temp is above 90. This came after James did wear a tie to the first day at work. OK so the rule was already in place, but I hear he really liked it. Alright so I got nothing. Sorry.
Well what did you expect? It was the guys first day after all.
I would like to leave an open invitation to James, or anyone on his staff that might be reading this, I would gladly interview James for this site to tell our readers a little more about him.
Welcome on board James we’re looking for great things (no pressure).
I would respectfully disagree…there is a lot of pressure…a helluva lot of pressure. A giant segment of your gross state product is on the verge of voting with its feet.
Of course you’re right Bill. Apparently my sarcasm went unnoticed.
James is walking into a hornets nest and I only hope he’s got a game plan, because there is no time to sit back and figure things out.
The person who invents the “sarcasm font” will make a fortune, LOL.
Seriously, this is also an opportunity for the state. Simply having an outsider is a step in the right direction. My fear is that the hornets won’t get riled enough. Either way, we need to take initiative ourselves where we can.
Anyway… as I keep annoying Bill with, there are some bold steps that Idaho could take that don’t take much money (or externally raisable) just some effort and the political will to try some different things. Best practices from elsewhere that we could do.
However, I have to hope that at least one “hand grenade” is incoming - can we hope for, say, a real push for real broadband connectivity?
Folks, not to go Lincoln Steffens on you, but I just came back from my egghead tour of Europe and if people’s paradises like Sweden, Spain & Finland are figuring this out… (Why is it when I present my double helix bridging assets model, everyone is amazed at why Idaho hasn’t made more progress…)
As Reverend Rick said elsewhere - time to find things, even little things, and do them. But if Mr. Ellick wants to hear about what seems to work everywhere else, the regulars on here are the right bunch, eh?
[soapbox font/off]
p.s. Happy 4th, everyone! (Free jazz at Lakeharbor with Kevin & Sally.. 6-ish, I think)
