TechBoise Q&A Event w/ INL

Now that Bill has managed to stir up a little discussion over our last post we have pulled some strings at the Idaho National Laboratory and got John Lindsey to come out and speak to us next Tuesday. I have asked that John speak specifically about their licensing deals and opportunities, but I’m sure that he will be open to any questions.

Actually John will be here as part anyway but while he was here Krissa did manage to get him booked for us on Tuesday the 26th at Louise Downtown. She even managed to get the Idaho Economic Development Association to provide free pizza and drinks.

When: Tuesday June 26th, 2007 at 5:30 PM

Where: Louie?ɬ¢?¢‚Äö¬¨?¢‚Äû¬¢s Pizza & Italian Restaurant,
620 W Idaho St, Boise, ID 83702-5930

This is open to anyone who would like to attend. If you are interested please leave us a comment bellow or shoot me an email: tac@techboise.com

For an extra $10 apiece, do we get a Texas Steelcage Deathmatch between John & Bill? LOL

John’s a good guy - and really believes in the positives about the lab that most have missed…

I’m in. Free pizza and drinks with Krissa? Who could say no?

Folks, at worst, this is a great chance to get together!

Don’t lay this on me. Lindsay is just the ‘mouthpiece’; you guys need to hear from someone who actually gets their hands dirty. It’ll be all fluff & no substance.

#2: don’t place your faith in INL; get organized to interdict the ’ship of state’ on the high seas, board her, fight your way to the bridge & turn it around. It took us from 1983 until 1994, when our highly activist ‘FMBG’ meeting weekly in Albuquerque, made progress. Along the way we had elected 29 members of the legislature, and in ‘94 elected Gary Johnson. He was an Iron-Man, Tri-athlete , hi-tech entrepreneur, pro-growth tech-head…who spent his own money & served as NM Governor until Richardson took over in 2002. He made all the difference.

Bill don’t worry, John just happened to be coming through and I was asked if I was interested in TechBoise hosting a get together.
The excuse for a get together with drinks and pizza picked up by someone else was all the excuse I needed.
My goal in all of these events is to try as many times as I can to get people involved on any level and get the right people in the same room at the right time. And since I don’t know who, what or when any of that is, I’ll keep shotgunning it.
And for the record I put my faith in no one person, one organization, or one political party.
Success will have to come from multiple fronts with multiple efforts by multiple people. TechBoise and these gatherings are one small effort I’m trying, the Water Cooler is another I’m helping with.
I know almost nothing about politics, nor do I care to. I’ll leave the politicking to those with the stomach for it.

More evidence from NM Lab spinoffs (their digitalization expertise)

Albuquerque Journal 6.25.07
2nd Digital production facility will occupy 100,000 sq. ft. at Mesa del Sol.

Gov. Bill Richardson will take time out from his campaign for the Democratic presidential nomination to host a ground-breaking ceremony for Sony Pictures Imageworks’ 100,000-sq.-ft. digital animation production facility at 3:45 p.m. today at Mesa del Sol, 5650 University Blvd. SE, according to a news release.

Construction is expected to start within 45 to 60 days, and once the building is completed, an estimated 300 Sony Pictures Imageworks will be moving to Albuquerque from the Los Angeles area.

The Culver City, Calif.-based company creates computer-generated special effects and animation, and its film credits include the “Spider-Man” series, “Superman Returns” and the recently released “Surf’s Up,” according to an earlier Albuquerque Journal report.

The new studio will be adjacent to Albuquerque Studios, a massive film production complex south of the Albuquerque International Sunport.

Joining Richardson at today’s groundbreaking will be Albuquerque Mayor Martin Chavez, Sony Pictures Imageworks President Tim Sarnoff and Hal Katersky, CEO of Pacifica Ventures/Albuquerque Studios, according to the news release.

Also on hand will be Michael Daly of Forest City Covington/Mesa del Sol; Nick Smerigan, chief operating officer of Albuquerque Studios; University of New Mexico Dean of the College of Fine Arts Christopher Mead; and Ed Angel, director of the UNM ARTS Lab.

UNM recently joined the California company’s Imageworks Professional Academic Excellence program in an effort to nurture young talent, according to the news release.

As far as I know, that Louie’s is closed. Or perhaps not yet, but coming soon. I’d double-check, though.
