The talk around the WaterCooler

Well it looks like it’s finally going to happen.  April 25th (or so) the WaterCooler is set to open.  I’ve been getting a lot of emails on this, so I figured it was getting close enough I should post about it.  If you’re not familiar with what the WaterCooler is, you can read the back story here.  Mark Rivers had this to say in an email he sent me late last month:

This is more than renting space — this is about making a statement for yourself and your community. It’s about access to strategic alliances, venture capital and big-time business leadership.  It’s about visibility and growth.

I know when I mentioned the project to people last year people had one of two responses:  "That’s really cool." or "What’s in it for him?"

It is a really cool project, and as far as what’s in it for Mark?  I decided to ask him:

What’s in it for me?  I just feel the itch and responsibility to contribute to Boise’s future.  "Next generation" leaders, like myself, need to take on certain community initiatives and give back to this special place.  I’m concerned about our economic development strategies (or lack of them!) and, think we need to support and grow the smaller companies that are here.  If I can do a small project like this once a year, with relatively low-cost and high-impact, I’m just going to do it.  Beyond that, I don’t get any direct financial benefit — quite the opposite.  When I say "non-profit," I really mean it, with all of the costs and complications of even a small building development

I’m really impressed with the leadership that Mark has taken with this project.  I’ve never seen anyone drive  project through all the red tape this much skill before.

If you’re interested in being apart of this landmark project, you can contact Mark directly at mrivers@brixusa.com or 368.0000.  I really believe this is going to be the place to be.  I look forward to seeing how it progresses and what companies come out of this.
